Focus on the future of astro education in Lusatia

We are very interested in the "future of astro education in the districts of Bautzen and Görlitz". A first workshop in the Rabryka Görlitz took place in March.

Among others, schools and astronomy clubs were also present. At five thematic tables, ideas were sketched together and questions answered. What framework conditions do observaties need for a successful future? How can we monitor students' interests in astrophysics, data science and technology development in the long term? What role do observatories play in society?

After a constructive exchange, everyone agreed in the end: This was the kick-off and we want to start the regular exchange! Until the next big meeting, we will continue to work on the topics in small groups.

Our goal for this year: In a first survey among the students of the partner schools, we want to find out how great the interest of children and young people is in our topics.

The solar eclipse on the August 12th, 2026 leaves room for ideas to make the topic of astronomy even more visible in Lusatia.
