Just in time for the end of the Science Year 2023 "Our Universe", the Federal Cabinet has decided that Germany will join the Square Kilometer Array Observatory [1]. This is the next step in involving German astronomy in the construction and operation of the several square kilometer network of radio antennas in South Africa and Australia. Next year, the DZA, together with the Max Planck Society, will install two radio antennas on the African continent and transmit and analyze the data obtained in this way to Saxony. German participation in SKAO will continue to open up new opportunities for industry and research to develop high technology for the next generation of radio antennas.
